Trio of feature starts for Chrsitian in Red, White & Blue Nationals
From Thursday through Saturday, Sooner State native Gary Christian raced in his home state during three nights of Summit USMTS competition. In the inaugural Red, White & Blue Nationals at Pocola, Oklahoma’s Tri-State Speedway, he qualified for each main event.
Thirty-six USMTS Modifieds were entered at the 3/8-mile clay oval when competition got underway on Thursday in “Salute to the Heroes Night.” Christian grabbed fifth in his heat race early in the evening aboard his Pannell Chipping No. 58x Modified. He went on to take third in his B-Main, moving him into the $3,000-to-win feature. He both started and finished 18th in the 30-lapper.
During Friday’s “Honor the Fallen Night,” Christian was unable to transfer out of his heat, but again finished third in his B-Main to earn the 18th-place starting spot in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature race. He turned in a 23rd-place result.
On Saturday, “Never Forget Night” saw Christian claim fifth in his heat race and eighth in his B-Main. He rolled off 24th to begin the 50-lap, $20,000-to-win finale and came home 19th.
After the Tri-State Speedway events, Christian remains sixth in the Summit USMTS National Championship standings.
