Christian turns in strong USMTS results in Minnesota with 4 top-10 finishes

A Summit USMTS swing through Minnesota from Thursday through Sunday netted Gary Christian four top-10 results, including a best finish of second.

The four-race schedule in the Gopher State began on Thursday at the half-mile Fairmont Raceway. Christian started the 11th annual Summer Spectacular by driving his Hochatown Saloon No. 58x Modified to the overall quickest time in qualifying out of 21 cars. He went on to finish fourth in his heat race and start second in the 25-lap, $3,000-to-win feature. He led the first four circuits and ultimately came home as runner-up, taking the checkered flag 1.397 seconds behind Joe Chisholm. Tanner Mullens, Terry Phillips and Rodney Sanders completed the top five.

The fifth annual Mod Wars program kicked off on Friday, offering a $5,000 first-place prize for three consecutive nights.

The first stop was Princeton Speedway, where Christian took on 28 other Modified competitors at the quarter-mile track. He took the runner-up spot in his heat and steered from fifth to third in the 40-lap feature. He rounded out the podium after Jim Chisholm and Reece Solander. Dave Cain and Clayton Wagamon took fourth and fifth, respectively.

On Saturday, 36 USMTS Modifieds were at the 3/8-mile Ogilvie Raceway. Christian was runner-up in his heat for the second consecutive night, starting him fifth in the 40-lap main event. He finished in ninth position.

Mod Wars and Christian’s four-day slate concluded on Sunday at Sauk Rapids, Minnesota’s Granite City Motor Park, where 21 Summit USMTS Modifieds were entered. Christian could only muster a 10th-place result in his heat race at the 3/8-mile speed plant, but he advanced from his 19th-place starting spot in the 40-lap A-Main to finish seventh. His efforts earned him the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger award.

Christian remains seventh in the Summit USMTS National Championship point standings.
