Quartet of USMTS top-10 finishes for Christian during 3rd week in June

Gary Christian raced in four Summit USMTS Modified shows from Tuesday through Saturday and turned in strong results in each, claiming no finish worse than eighth.

The racing slate kicked off on Tuesday with the 14th annual Summersota Nationals at Watertown, South Dakota’s Casino Speedway, where 29 USMTS teams were vying for the $3,000 winner’s share. Christian drove his Cyclo Propane No. 58x Modified to second in his heat race on the quarter-mile track, then started and finished seventh in the night’s 35-lap A-Main.

Christian had his best performance of the week the next night as the USMTS schedule shifted to Off Road Speedway in Norfolk, Nebraska, for the inaugural Nebraska Nationals.

Christian took third in his heat and started on the pole in the 35-lap, $3,000-to-win A-Main in Nebraska. He led the first seven laps before being overtaken by eventual winner Rodney Sanders. Christian finished 3.306 seconds behind Sanders in the runner-up spot. Joe Chisholm, Tanner Mullens and Tyler Davis completed the top five in the 19-car field.

After an off-day on Thursday, USMTS action picked up again on Friday and Saturday with the 12th annual Amarillo Ambush at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas. The topless Modified event brought 46 USMTS competitors to the 3/8-mile track each night.

On Friday, Christian finished fourth in his heat race and was the runner-up in his B-Main, starting him 16th in the 35-lap, $5,000-to-win feature. He steadily climbed throughout the race and came home eighth.

The next night, Christian charged from ninth to second in his heat, positioning him sixth to begin the $5,000-to-win main event. He finished seventh in the 40-lapper, and at the conclusion of his strong week, moved into the seventh spot in the USMTS National Championship standings.
