Christian rolls to Wild West Shootout podium at Vado; finishes third in final points
After a brief snow shower forced race officials to postpone Wednesday's program, Gary Christian was back at Vado (New Mexico) Speedway Park from Friday through Sunday for the final three rounds of 19th annual Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout miniseries.
With an impressive 11th-to-5th outing in his heat race locking him into Friday’s A-Main, Christian climbed two spots in the 25-lap affair to register a third-place finish. He joined Kyle Strickler and Rodney Sanders on the podium.
On Saturday, Gary backed up a third-place finish in his heat with another strong showing in the feature. He took the green in eighth and advanced four positions to take home fourth.
Despite a slow start in Sunday’s Wild West Shootout finale, Christian capped off the miniseries with his fifth straight top-10 finish. Starting from the 10th row after a runner-up showing in his consolation race, Gary made an impressive drive, passing 12 cars during the 25-lap feature to place seventh.
Christian finished third in the final Wild West Shootout point standings amongst a very strong contingent of cars.
